Router choice

Avatarjr808 asked 7 years ago

I am looking at the following routers and would like to get your opinion on which is your preference.  My needs are gigabit LAN ports and reliable WiFi.  I am upgrading from a Netgear WNR1000v3.  My choices are Netgear WNR3500L and Linksys EA3500. I think on a previous question you recommended the EA3500 but I have had good reliability from previous Netgear routers.  Thank you for any help you can provide.

The Netgear WNR3500L was launched in 2009. The EA3500 is from 2012. In this era, 7 year old router technology would concern me. I can’t personally vouch for the Netgear in this case, but I know I’ve had good performance from the EA3500. I would do some research to see if the WNR3500L has the performance you want and some features you need, but I would tend to lean toward the newer router. That being said, the newer Linksys EA6350 was released last year and is now selling for well under $100. I’ve used it with about 3 clients and it seems to have very good performance at a very nice price. You may want to check that one out as well.
