What would be the best router for Charter Comm. I bought a Netgear AC1200 router. My modem is a Cisco DPC3216. It will not connect wired to computer or WiFi. I have called Charter and they put me off to Netgear. I called Netgear they want $109 bucks to see if the can solve the connectivity issue or get it resolved.Charter has a list of specific modems that are compatible on their system. Charter now has come up with a gimmick with in house WiFi. $40.00 per month with a one time installation fee. That is what I was told by Charter. I had a Cisco DPC3010 that worked perfectly with a Netgear WNDR4300. I tried that one it did the same thing: Connectivity issue. The reason I am trying this equipment is because I had lightning damage. It came in on Charter’s cable but good luck proving that. I worked with a power company for 35 years and very experienced with lightning damage.I was wondering : Is there a router out that will work on Charter’s system. I will not be hijacked by Charter for their in home Wifi. I would appreciate any information that you may have. Thank you
It sounds like perhaps the problem is your modem. Are you able to get Internet if you directly wire up to the Cisco modem? If not, then that is your problem. Otherwise, if you can get Internet through your modem, then just about any router should work. Also, where I live, Charter just gives you the modem as part of your standard pricing. They don’t charge you separately to lease the modem anymore. So I generally suggest to allow Charter to give you their modem so that if there ever is a problem with the modem (like there might be now) then they just replace it and that’s that. You do not need to go with their Wi-Fi service to do that. Let me know what happens.
